Cross Country Returns to Course Friday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a dominating finish at the Charlotte Invitational in September, the 49ers men’s and women’s cross country teams return to the course this weekend, running in the Wake Forest Invitational at Beeson Park in Kernersville, N.C. The men will be running an 8K and the women a 6K.

The men’s squad is coming off a top finish at the Charlotte Invite, with redshirt freshman Tom Nobles narrowly missing the crown by .01 seconds and taking second place to nationally ranked Division II runner Lukas Meeks of Emory College. A gang of 49ers helped Nobles secure the first place finish for the squad- senior Ben Sterett took fourth, sophomore Daniel Beamer right behind him at fifth, and seniors Michael Tamayo and Nick Rotz rounded out the Top 10 at seventh and ninth, respectively.

Joining the men will be seniors Zach Greth and Carl Walton, junior Kent Mann, sophomore Josh Barrett, and redshirt freshman Adam Huff.

The women took second place at the Invite, led by the duo of redshirt junior Carolina Casin-Silva and senior Morgan Richards who came in fifth and sixth. Classmate Tiffany Lang finished eighth overall and third on the team, turning in her third consecutive Top 3 finish amongst the 49er women.

Veterans Rachel Miller, Ashleigh Handchen, Caragh MacDermott, and Taylor Carcella and redshirt freshmen Erin Nelson and Caroline Sang will round out the women’s squad.

The meet will serve as a final tune-up for the Conference USA Championships, set to take place Oct. 31 in Bowling Green, Ky.
