CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 49ers men’s and women’s cross country programs will return to the course Friday, hosting the annual Charlotte Invitational at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte.
The women are coming off a second place finish at the William & Mary Invite, while the men took third.
Charlotte will send a total of 19 runners into competition, with nine females and 10 males registered to race.
The female squad is led by senior Morgan Richards and junior Carolina Casin-Silva, who have each finished in the top four during the 2015 season. Casin-Silva is coming off a 5K personal best at the W&M Invite, clocking in at 18:38.14 and grabbing fourth place.
The women’s fleet is heavy with veterans to accompany Richards and Casin-Silva, with seniors Tiffany Lang, Ashleigh Handchen, Rachel Miller, Taylor Carcella, and Caragh MacDermott all scheduled to compete. Lang has finished in third amongst the team in both meets, coming in 7th and 8th overall. Redshirt freshmen Erin Nelson will also compete after a solid start to her cross country career this season.
The men’s squad will send their biggest group of the season, led by seniors Zach Greth, Ben Sterett, Nicholas Rotz, and Michael Tamayo. Redshirt freshman Tom Nobles, who was Charlotte’s top finisher at the UVa Duals to begin the 2015 campaign, will return to the course after forgoing the W&M Invite.
The Niners will take a break and then return to action Oct. 16, running in the Wake Forest Invitational at Beeson Park in Winston-Salem, N.C.
