ATLANTA -- Georgia State outfielder-pitcher Rhett Harper was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® baseball team, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Harper's selection to the second team gives the Georgia State baseball program seven Academic All-America® honorees since 2013.

The senior from Chatsworth, Ga., has the highest grade point average on the Academic All-America® baseball team. He graduated this semester with a 4.16 GPA in finance.

Harper hit .288 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 80 at-bats, despite batting for the first time in three years. Also a right-handed relief pitcher, he returned to the outfield at mid-season to help bolster the lineup. He began his career as an outfielder but moved to the mound in 2016, serving as the team's closer in 2017 before missing the 2018 season due to elbow surgery.

Harper is one of Georgia State's 29 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans® in all sports, including 22 honorees since 2010. In 2018-19, volleyball standout Crystal Lee and softball player Kristin Hawkins have also been selected.
