Cullowhee, N.C. – A mountain rivalry is renewed Saturday afternoon as Western Carolina men’s basketball welcomes UNC Asheville to the Ramsey Center for a 4 p.m. tip-off.

Western Carolina is 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the Southern Conference after an 87-77 win over Chattanooga on Tuesday, the fourth straight win for the Catamounts. Mason Faulkner scored a career-high 31 points in the win with 29 points coming in the second half. Carlos Dotson had his second straight double-double with a season-best 21 points and 12 rebounds.

UNC Asheville sports a 4-2 season record thanks to its 83-75 victory at Charlotte on Tuesday, its third straight win. The Bulldogs have three players averaging double figures, led by 6-5 guard Tajion Jones with 16.3 points per game. DeVon Baker (15.7) and LJ Thorpe (12.3) are also averaging double figure scoring.

Saturday’s game is the 53rd game in the series with the Catamounts leading 30-22. WCU has won the last two matchups and five of the last six overall. The Catamounts are 17-8 against the Bulldogs in Cullowhee with Saturday marking the first meeting in the Ramsey Center since 2015.

The game between the Bulldogs and Catamounts is the first “Ingles SoCon Game of the Week” for the 2019-20 season. The “Ingles SoCon Game of the Week” will be broadcast throughout the league’s six-state footprint across a network of Nexstar stations.  Nexstar affiliates airing games include: WCBD (Charleston), WGHP (Greensboro/High Point), WJHL (Johnson City), WYCW (Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville) and WWCW (Lynchburg/Roanoke). The game can also be seen on ESPN3 (cable or satellite subscription required). WSPA Sports Director Pete Yanity will provide play-by-play and 20-year coaching veteran Dean Keener will serve as analyst for the regular-season broadcasts.

Following Saturday’s game, the Catamounts take an 11-day break for exams, returning to action on Wed. Dec. 18 at Xavier for a 6:30 p.m. contest that will air nationally on FS1.
