PRINCETON, N.J. – Chad Cowden has been named the Suburban Transit/GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week after putting together a stellar showing in the Princeton University sprint football team’s heartbreaking season-ending 44-36 loss to Chestnut Hill.
Scoring four touchdowns, Cowden completed 10-of-29 pass attempts for 205 yards, two TDs and two interceptions. Also the team’s leading rusher, Cowden ran for two more scores while gaining 83 yards on 29 carries.
Opening the scoring, Cowden found Patrick Yu for a 58-yard strike on the Tigers’ opening possession. On Princeton’s next drive, Cowden hit John Van Orden on a 41-yard TD that gave the Orange and Black a 14-0 lead. Continuing to fuel the Princeton offense, Cowden ran for a 33-yard score early in the second quarter before calling his own number from three yards out in the third to make it 28-14.
Princeton’s biggest offensive weapon, Cowden threw for 746 yards and seven touchdowns (149.2 ypg) in 2015. The 36 points the Tigers scored against Chestnut Hill were the most for a Princeton team since the 1995 squad defeated Penn, 39-13.
