Charles & Owens Take on Day 2 of East Regional
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (5/27/16) - Two Tigers competed on Day 2 of the NCAA Track & Field East Regionals at the University of North Florida.
Sophomore Mitchel Charles started his NCAA Regional with the discus throw. He fouled on his first two attempts before launching it to 50.26 (164-11) on his final attempt to finish 12th in flight 1. He placed 38th overall in the field. He will compete in the shot put tomorrow afternoon, along with junior Chris Cook at 6 p.m.
Senior Eddie Owens finished 17th overall in the steeplechase at 8:51.22. A three-time regional qualifier in this event, Owens was 13th after 1500 meters and started to make his move on lap five as he moved into 10th place (6:29.75). At the bell he was eighth (7:41.49) before he closed with a 1:09.73.
Junior Xavier Bledsoe will start the day with the high jump at 5:30 p.m. Sophomores Noah Kauppila and Garrett O’Toole will run in the 1500 quarterfinals at 6:45 p.m., and Kauppila will try to make it a double with the 5k at 9:30 p.m.
