Georgia Tech Tops Women's Tennis in NCAA Opener
In what was the third straight NCAA tournament appearance for the Princeton women's tennis team, the 39th-ranked Tigers fell 4-1 to No. 17 Georgia Tech Friday at South Carolina in the Round of 64.
Though Princeton got a doubles win on court three from Emily Hahn and Catalina Vives, Georgia Tech gave up just three games in taking the wins on courts one and two and then took three of the four singles matches to finish, clinching the win. Caroline Joyce picked up a straight-set win over Kendal Woodard, 7-5, 6-2, to give Princeton its point, and Alanna Wolff had bounced back to force a third set on court six before the match was clinched.Joyce, a junior, was playing in her first NCAA tournament match, as were freshmen Vives and Nicole Kalhorn.
In reaching the NCAA tournament for the third straight year, Princeton became the first Ivy team to compete in three straight NCAAs since Yale did so from 2011-13 and just the third program in league history to do it, along with Harvard from 2003-06, 1996-99 and 1984-88.
