The first three singles matches to end went to Princeton, courtesy of wins from Luke Gamble, Diego Vives and Alex Day, but the fourth point proved elusive. All three of Penn's singles wins, and four of the six matches overall, went down to third-set tiebreaks, and Princeton came up just short of ending its Ivy slate with a win.

Coach Billy Pate on the match: "First and foremost, our guys left it all on the court and gave a good effort today. Penn played inspired as they had some seniors playing well in their last match. Nonetheless, it doesn't take away the frustration we have in dropping another incredibly close match. Once again, we had the momentum, had really turned the match in our favor by going up 3-1. We had some chances to close it out, along with some match point, but things just didn't fall. That's sports. I don't want the last few weeks to take away from what has overall been a good year. We did a great job in non-conference competition, though we just didn't win the close ones in the Ivy portion of our schedule. Nonetheless, you sometimes have these inexplicable results and all we can do is refocus on what's next. We'll work hard in the offseason as this team will be primed for a great run next year. We return all of our starters and add some great newcomers, so expectations will be very high." |
