CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Columbia lightweight varsity four claimed a bronze medal to highlight the Lions’ day of racing at the 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta Sunday afternoon. In addition, the Columbia heavyweight, lightweight and women’s varsity eight crews competed on the day.

The lightweight fours, comprised of a quartet of Alexandros Zisimidis, Maxwell Amsterdam. John Robison, Gavin Southerland and coxswain Yudi Liu, emerged into medal contention in the final third of its race and finished with a time of 15:52.491, behind Ivy League rivals Yale and Oxford Brooke from across the pond.

The Lions’ lightweight eight completed its event with a ninth-place finish, posting a time of 14:22.823. The heavyweight eight claimed 25th place, turning in a time 14:34.246.

On the women’s side, Columbia recorded a 28th place finish, crossing the finish line in 16:07.448.

For Columbia’s alumni, a pair of 2013 graduates reached the podium. Women’s rowing alumna Lily Keane ’13BC won first place for ARION as the bow in the women’s championship doubles. Charles Wu ’13CC earned a bronze medal with the Riverside Boat Club, sitting as the stroke in the men’s club eights.
