LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior back Alyssa Chillano and sophomore midfielder Margaux Paolino were selected to the 2017 ACC Field Hockey All-Tournament Team, as announced by the conference following Sunday’s championship match. Both Blue Devils were also tabbed first team All-ACC honorees last week leading up to the conference tournament.
Duke’s starting center back, Chillano led the Blue Devils through a pair of overtime contests at the ACC Championship. She was integral in limiting Boston College to just six shots and two penalty corners in Thursday’s 3-2 quarterfinal victory over the Eagles. The Phoenixville, Pa., native was on the field for overtime again in Friday’s semifinal matchup with Louisville, helping to hold the Cardinals to just eight shots and two penalty corners on the day. Chillano added a goal in the 3-2 overtime shootout loss to host Louisville, evening the score at 1-1 on a penalty corner in the 57th minute.
Paolino received ACC All-Tournament Team recognition for the second consecutive year after leading Duke into the tournament semifinals with an overtime game winner Thursday against Boston College. The Villanova, Pa., native put away a rebound off of a defender’s stick four minutes into the overtime period for her second tally of the season. Paolino also helped fuel the Blue Devils’ attack from the midfield in both contests, as the squad recorded a combined 44 shots.
The second-ranked Blue Devils (16-3) will find out their NCAA Tournament fate Sunday at 10 p.m. during the selection show, which will be streamed on NCAA.com.
