Blue Devils and the ACC Rally Behind Syracuse’s Tiana Mangakahia

Tiana Mangakahia, a point guard at Syracuse, announced earlier this summer that she has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. The rising senior could have entered her name into the 2019 Draft, but elected to return for another season. The ACC is rallying being Mangakahia to support her throughout treatment.

Alumni Update…

Chelsea Gray Aims for 2020 Olympics 

Chelsea Gray’s career was almost halted by a knee injury her junior year at Duke. She went on to be drafted, but did not play her first season in the WNBA. But now as a three-time WNBA All-Star, Gray is focusing on her next career goal: The 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Gray is part of the 2019-2020 USA Basketball’s Women’s National Team player pool, and will soon take part in an eight player training program in hopes to make the Olympic Team. 

 

 

Duke in the WNBA…

Chelsea Gray, ‘14

Chelsea Gray scored a career-high 30 points Thursday night on the road against the Indiana Fever. Gray was seven-for-nine from beyond the arc, and contributed nine assists in the contest. The Los Angeles Sparks won against the Fever, but fell to the Las Vegas Aces and the Washington Mystics. Gray had 10 and 12 points, respectively, in those efforts. 

 

 

 

Jasmine Thomas, ‘11

Jasmine Thomas and the Connecticut Sun tallied two wins on the road this week against the New York Liberty and the Seattle Storm. Thomas contributed 10 points and seven assists against the Liberty and nine points, five steals, and four boards against the Storm.

 

Elizabeth Williams, ‘15

Elizabeth Williams and the Atlanta Dream lost their two games this week, at home against the Phoenix Mercury and on the road against the Seattle Storm. Williams had six rebounds and three blocks against the Storm, and five rebounds, two steals, and three blocks against the Mercury. 

Lexie Brown, ‘18 

Lexie Brown and the Minnesota Lynx are heading to their ninth consecutive playoff after two wins this past week. The Lynx defeated the Chicago Sky at home Tuesday night, and the Indiana Fever on Sunday. Brown contributed 10 points and two boards in her 16 minutes against the Fever.
