Back to School 

It’s the last week of summer in Durham. All students will begin classes next Monday, August 26. Wish the Blue Devils good luck as they take on the 2019-20 school year!

Onome Akinbode-James Facing Challenges 

Onome Akinbode-James, the sophomore from Abeokuta, Nigeria, made the choice to come to Duke to be challenged, on the court and in the classroom. Akinbode-James has decided to pursue an electrical engineering major. She has taken advantages on the opportunities Duke has given her as a student-athlete, and is willing to live up to the challenge. Read the full story of the 6-3 post player in the link below.

Blue Devils in Podcasts 

WNBA stars Jasmine Thomas and Chelsea Gray were the guests on two separate podcasts this week. Thomas spoke on SunCast, a weekly behind-the-scenes show exclusively on the Connecticut Sun. Gray was featured on The Winsidr Show, a WNBA show on the latest news and game analysis. 



Rebecca Greenwell Hosts Skills Camp 

Former Duke star Rebecca Greenwell returned back home to Owensboro, Kentucky, to host her second annual skills camp. Kids from second grade through high school learn to shoot, dribble, and pass from the WNBA draft pick and college standout. 


Duke in the WNBA... 

Chelsea Gray, ‘14

Chelsea Gray and the Los Angeles Sparks lost two contests on the road this week to the Dallas Wings and Chicago Sky. Gray had two MVP performances, playing most of both games and scoring a collective 57 points. She scored 25 points and had seven assists in the effort against the Sky. Gray had 22 points, five boards, and five assists against the Dallas Wings. 


Elizabeth Williams, ‘15 

Williams and her Atlanta Dream also had a slow week with two road losses. Williams had four points and four boards against the Las Vegas Aces. Against the Phoenix Mercury, Williams had her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds (per 


Jasmine Thomas, ‘11 

Thomas and the Connecticut Sun are on a three-game win streak after a sweep of a week. The Sun’s defeated the Phoenix Mercury on the road, 78-71, with Thomas contributing 18 points in 33 minutes. In back-to-back home games, the Sun’s defeated the Seattle SuperSonics and the Dallas Wings, with Thomas putting up 11 and 16 points, respectively. 


Lexie Brown, ‘18

Brown played in two contests this week with the Minnesota Lynx. She contributed three points and two rebounds in the loss against the Washington Mystics, and eight points and three steals in the win against the New York Liberty. Brown did not play in Sunday night’s game against the Seattle Storm.
