DURHAM, N.C. – With less than two weeks until the 2019-20 campaign opens for the Duke women’s golf program, the Blue Devils have received their second No. 2 preseason national ranking with the release of the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) poll.
Duke received four first place votes, while Southern California earned 13 to be tabbed No. 1 nationally. Texas, Stanford, Florida State, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Florida, Wake Forest, Arizona State, Kent State, Arizona, Auburn, South Carolina and Northwestern rounded out the top 15 teams.
The Blue Devils return four of five starters from their 2019 NCAA Championship squad as head coach Dan Brooks enters his 36th season at Duke. Leading the charge of returners include senior All-America Ana Belac, junior All-America Jaravee Boonchant and sophomore All-America Gina Kim, along with letterwinners Miranda Wang and Hannah O'Sullivan. Duke also welcomes in United States Golf Association (USGA) Champions Megan Furtney and Erica Shepherd to the mix as freshmen.
Brooks has guided the Blue Devils to an NCAA-record 136 victories over his tenure in Durham and his seven NCAA titles are the most by a women’s golf coach.
The Blue Devils were also selected No. 2 in the preseason Golfweek national rankings.
Duke will open the 2019-20 season Sept. 16-18 in Lake Elmo, Minn., for the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The tournament will be played at the Royal Golf Club.
