Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Best XI | Top Drawer Soccer Top 25

DURHAM, N.C.—The preseason accolades continue to come in for the Duke men’s soccer team as Top Drawer Soccer has released its preseason Best XI and Top 25 national rankings. Senior Brandon Williamson and Sergi Nus were named to the Preseason Best XI, while the Blue Devils come in at No. 10 in the top 25 poll.

Williamson, an All-ACC second team pick in 2018, garnered a spot in the midfield on the second team. He is one of 12 midfielders listed among the Preseason Best XI and one of five from the ACC. A graduate student transfer from Virginia, Nus was listed among the defenders on the third team.

Duke’s engine in the midfield, Williamson will be looked to provide both goal scoring and playmaking this season. He was an All-South Region pick and voted the team’s Most Valuable Player last year after starting 18 games and playing in all but 48 minutes in those contests. He finished the year with a goal and an assist.

A two-time All-ACC pick at the University of Virginia, Nus joins the Blue Devils for his final year of eligibility. He missed the 2018 campaign to injury and returns to the field to anchor Duke’s backline at centerback. He started all 41 games he played for the Cavaliers and had nine goals and an assist as a defender.

Tabbed 10th in the United Soccer Coaches poll, Duke also comes in at No. 10 in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25. The Blue Devils are eighth by College Soccer News. It marks the second straight year Duke is ranked 10th in the preseason poll. The previous highest preseason ranking for the Blue Devils was No. 4 in 2007.

Maryland tops the poll, while ACC foes Wake Forest, North Carolina and Louisville land at Nos. 3, 7 and 9.

Duke finished its preseason slate with a 1-1-1 overall record. The Blue Devils officially kick off 2019 with the John Rennie Nike Invitational this weekend. The games will be streamed live on ACCNX and can be seen via the ESPN app. Links are available at
