DURHAM, N.C.—The Blue Devils take to Koskinen Stadium for their final preseason tune-up Friday night against Coastal Carolina. Duke and the Chanticleers kick off at 7:30 p.m.
Friday night’s game will not be streamed, but out-of-town fans can follow the action via the live stats on GoDuke.com. Admission is free and concessions will be available. Parking is available in the grounds lot off of Cameron Blvd., or Frank Bassett Drive.
Checking in on the Blue Devils
Duke heads into its preseason finale with a 0-1-1 record after a 2-2 tie with South Carolina and a 2-1 setback at UNC Wilmington this past Tuesday. The Blue Devils got goals from Daniel Wright and Conor Kelly in the two games, including a brace from Wright in the opener against the Gamecocks. Defensively, Duke has allowed nine first-half shots with its starting backline in the game and no goals in the opening 45 minutes.
About Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers also are heading into their third exhibition to wrap up their preseason slate. Coastal Carolina defeated UNC Greensboro by a 2-1 score and fell to Clemson 3-1. The Chants are picked to win the Sun Belt conference, edging reigning champion Georgia State. Senior Tsiki Ntsabeleng is the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with six goals and 18 points overall. Jeranimo Power joined Ntsabeleng with recognition, picking up Preseason All-Sun Belt honors. The Chants finished last season with a 10-6 overall record, averaging just under two goals per game.
Preseason Honors and Polls
Duke senior Daniele Proch has pulled in honors as the 2019 season nears. The striker was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, was tabbed as one of 11 players to watch by NCAA Soccer and to the College Soccer News preseason All-America first team. Most recently, the Italy native was listed on the ACC Preseason Player Watch List as Duke came in at No. 3 in the Coastal Division and earned a first-place vote in the overall league standings. Nationally, Duke was tabbed 10th in the USC preseason top 25 and eighth by College Soccer News.
The Blue Devils will start class, Monday, Aug. 26 and will gear up for the John Rennie Nike Invitational that weekend. Duke hosts Furman and Cal State Bakersfield in the Labor Day weekend tournament.
