DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s cross country team held an awards banquet Thursday evening, honoring Blue Devils for their achievements across the 2018 fall campaign. Head coach Norm Ogilvie handed out three awards—Most Valuable Performer, Most Outstanding Single Performance and the Top Freshman Award.
Receiving Most Valuable Performer was senior co-captain Nikhil Pulimood, who was one Duke’s top runners this fall. Pulimood was among Duke’s top two finishers in four of his five races, including a second-place finish for the Blue Devils at the ACC Championships in Boston. Of his five races, the Princeton N.J., native notched top-10 finishes in two of those competitions, finishing sixth overall at the Elon Opener and ninth overall at the Roy Griak Invitational.
The Most Outstanding Single Performance Award went to sophomore Alex Miley, who posted an impressive outing at the ACC Cross Country Championships. Miley led the way for the Blue Devils, finishing 23rd overall—two spots shy of earning all-conference honors—with an 8K time of 24:19.7, which was a season-best time for the squad.
Freshman Carter Dillon, a native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., took home the Top Freshman Award. Dillon posted a solid freshman campaign for the Blue Devils, earning three consecutive top-10 overall finishes for Duke across his final three races of the season. Dillon eclipsed a personal-best time at the ECU Pirates Invite in Greenville, running an 8K time of 24:58.5 to earn a ninth-place overall finish. His first top-10 overall finish came at the Great American Cross Country Festival, where he placed 10th with a time of 25:45.9 to help Duke to a first-place team finish and garner ACC Freshman of the Week honors.
