ATHENS, Ga. – Despite a number of opportunities for both teams, Friday’s exhibition matchup between the eight-ranked Duke Blue Devils and the Georgia Bulldogs ended in a scoreless draw at the Turner Soccer Complex.

The two teams combined for 16 shots in the contest, including nine shots from the Blue Devils with five being on goal. Georgia recorded seven attempts on the evening, including two on target. The duo of redshirt junior Brooke Heinsohn and freshman Ruthie Jones each finished with one save apiece to pick up the team’s second consecutive shutout.

The duo of senior Ella Stevens and sophomore Marykate McGuire led Duke’s offensive attack, who each finished with two shots each and one shot on goal. The trio of Karlie Paschall, Lily Nabet and Mackenzie Pluck each attempted one shot on goal, while Mia Gyau and Tess Boade rounded out the Blue Devils’ nine shots with one each.

Duke also held the advantage in corners (7-2), with all seven occurring in the second half of action.

Friday’s matchup marks the final exhibition for the Blue Devils as the team now turns its focus to the regular season. The 2019 season officially begins Thursday, Aug. 22, as Duke opens the 2019 Carolina Nike Tournament against La Salle at 4 p.m.
