JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Marist men's basketball team collected their first road win of the season as they cruised to a 66-47 win over Saint Peter's at the Yanitelli Center on Thursday night. Junior Devin Price (Inglewood, Calif.) highlighted Marist's offensive effort with a game-high 20 points.
The game began with a Saint Peter's feel to it as the host Peacocks jumped out to a 7-2 run over the first 4:03 of play.
An 8-0 run over the next 3:51 quickly turned the advantage in Marist's favor at 10-7. From that 12:06 mark through the remainder of the first half and eventually the game, the Red Foxes held the lead and saw it twice grow into double digits, at 21-10 at 8:00 and 33-23 at 1:01.
The 11 point margin was courtesy of an 11-3 run, which Price spearheaded with five points. Senior R.J. Hall (East Orange, N.J.) added four. Four Red Foxes contributed to the second double-digit lead with a 7-0 run.
At the half, Marist was ahead 33-25 on the strength of 47.6 percent (10-21) shooting and 18 points by Price. The junior shooting guard was the only one of 17 players on either side, who entered the game to register more than six points in the half.
The first four minutes of the second half saw Marist's lead hover between eight and ten points. A 20-4 run over the next 10 minutes turned a 36-28 game into a 56-32 contest with 5:50 remaining. Five Red Foxes registered points during this 16-point swing. Sophomore Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) led the way with five points.
This stretch of offense play was indicative of the Red Foxes' second half as three players scored six or more points and six of the seven, who played scored.
After 40 minutes of play, Marist was victorious by a score of 66-47. With the win, the Red Foxes moved to within a half game of sixth place and had secured their first season sweep of a MAAC opponent since the 2007-08 season.
