Wright State, making its second consecutive appearance in the Women's Basketball Invitational, will open tournament play on Thursday at SIU Edwardsville.
The Raiders, who are the #5 seed in the West Region, will meet the Cougars, the #4 seed, on Thursday, March 15, at 8:00 Eastern. The winner advances to a WBI quarterfinal matchup against #1 seed Seattle or #8 seed North Dakota on a date and site to be announced.
WSU and SIUE (18-11, 12-4 Ohio Valley) will be meeting for the sixth time ever, with the Raiders holding a 3-2 series lead. The two teams, though, have not met since SIU Edwardsville won 81-75 in overtime at Wright State's P.E. Building on January 31, 1987, the final season for the Raiders in Division I. The Cougars won the only meeting in Edwardsville 70-66 on February 2, 1985.
Last season, Wright State made its first-ever Division I postseason appearance by going 1-1 in the WBI, defeating Buffalo 82-79 before falling to Manhattan 75-73, with both games held at WSU's Nutter Center.
The Raiders (20-12, 12-6 Horizon), who have now won 20 games two straight seasons after recording just one 20-win season in program history, are led by freshman guard Kim Demmings, who was selected First Team All-Horizon League as well as the Co-Newcomer of the Year. Demmings Sunday was named to the league's All-Tournament Team after scoring 50 points and collecting 16 rebounds in two games, including a double-double of 30 points and 10 boards in the quarterfinals against Loyola.
Senior forward Molly Fox was chosen to the league's Second Team after averaging 16 points per game overall, good for eighth in the league, and tied for second with a 10.0 rebound average.
