The Wright State volleyball team battled once-beaten Bowling Green tough Tuesday night, but came up short in a three-set decision at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium. The Falcons won the match 28-26, 25-12, 25-23.
The opening set, which featured 13 ties altogether, saw the Raiders go up 24-22 on a Bowling Green service error, but the Falcons answered with three straight points to go up 25-24. An Alaina McAuley kill tied the score and a later block by McAuley and Ashley Langjahr knotted it again at 26 before Bowling Green won the set on kills from Emily Kauth and Lauren Mizgalski.
Bowling Green controlled the second set by outhitting Wright State .333 to -.029, but the Raiders again battled the Falcons tight in the third set, taking a 15-13 lead on a McAuley kill and only trailing 22-21 following an attack error.
A Dani Branco kill drew WSU to 24-23 before a Paige Penrod kill closed out the match.
The Falcons had a slight 38-34 kill advantage, but outhit the Raiders .155-.069 and recorded nine service aces to just one for Wright State.
Heidi Splinter led WSU with 11 kills while McAuley had 10. Ashleigh Lucco dished out 24 assists and had 11 digs and Jessica Levy added 16 digs.
Kauth paced Bowling Green (14-1) with eight kills as the Falcons had four players with six or more kills.
Wright State (2-13) returns to Horizon League action with a pair of road matches this weekend, taking on Valparaiso on Friday at 8:00 Eastern followed by UIC on Saturday at 5:00 Dayton time.
