UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond hosts UMass Friday at 11 a.m. at Robins Stadium in each teams' conference opener.
The Spiders host the Minutewomen in what will be a rematch of last year's A-10 Championship final. UMass beat the Spiders, 16-12, en route to its second-straight conference crown. Richmond vies for its first win over UMass since 2007.
Richmond Lately: The Spiders enter Friday's contest having won four of their last six games. Richmond most recently dominated William & Mary, 18-8, last Wednesday. Richmond's other notable win was a 13-12 victory over No. 13 James Madison earlier this month. Caitlin Fifield was awarded A-10 Player of the Week honors for her hat trick performance.
Tewaarton Watch nominee Mary Flowers ranks second in the country in caused turnovers per game (2.56), while Taylor Blazer ranks seventh in the nation in ground balls per game (3.3). The Spiders are eighth in the nation in ground balls per game (18.67).
Senior goalkeeper Victoria Roebuck is third in the nation in saves per game (12.0) and ranks sixth in saves overall (92.0).
UMass Lately: The Minutewomen come into Friday's contest ranked No. 19 in the country with a 9-1 mark. UMass is led by reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year Katie Ferris' nation-leading 56 points. Ferris already has 32 goals and 24 assists on the season. Lauren Terracciano leads the team with 12 assists, and ranks second on the team with 31 points. UMass is third in the country in overall points (231) and sixth in offense (15.5 goals per game).
Richmond travels to St. Joe's Sunday for a 1 p.m. game.
