Zags Close 2012 Road Schedule In Southern California

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team will close the road side of its 2012 spring schedule in Southern California this weekend against two tough West Coast Conference foes. The Bulldogs will play at Loyola Marymount University Friday at 1:30 p.m. followed by a tough match at eighth-ranked Pepperdine University Saturday at 11 a.m.

HEAD COACH PETER MACDONALD'S THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS WEEKEND: "We have another tough weekend ahead, but the guys are up for the opportunity."

SCOUTING THE LIONS: Loyola Marymount University is coming off a 7-0 road loss to 55th-ranked UC Santa Barbara Wednesday. Alex Wilton and Felix van Kann got the only win for the Lions at No. 1 doubles.  Wilton and van Kann have been one of the two top doubles teams for the Lions, carrying a 7-4 record together. Sebastian Bustamante and Nicholas Bjerke, who together checked in at No. 67 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Top 90 doubles rankings, hold the team's best doubles record with an 8-4 mark. Bjerke is also leading the effort in singles for the Lions this spring season, carrying a 9-6 record.

SCOUTING THE WAVES: Eighth-ranked Pepperdine University is coming off a 6-1 West Coast Conference victory over the University of Portland Thursday to extend its win streak to 14 matches. Sebastian Fanselow, who checked in at No. 10 in the ITA Top 125 singles rankings Tuesday, is on a 12-match singles streak after defeating the Pilots Stefan Micov 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 slot. Pepperdine also has Mousheg Hovhannisyan ranked 80th in the country in singles with a 21-13 record and the team of Alex Llompart and Finn Tearney is ranked fourth in ITA doubles rankings with a 12-8 record, all played on court one.
