MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of Northern Iowa cross country teams competed for the second time in the 2011 season on Friday evening at the Oz Memorial in Minneapolis. The Panther women earned a runner-up finish as a team, trailing only host Minnesota, while the UNI men claimed a fifth-place finish.

Senior Jill Lageschulte took 20th place in the 6k race with a time of 23:52.54 to lead the Panther women. Junior Scotti Schon was close behind, finishing in 24:02.98 for 24th place. Allison Fick (24:34.03), Lindsey Wilkins (24:36.07) and Leah Blanchard (24:54.67) claimed 32nd, 34th, and 38th place, respectively, to round out the scoring for UNI.

Minnesota claimed the women's team title with a perfect 15 points. UNI was second with 76.

Junior Brett Egan made his 2011 debut and led the UNI men with a 19th-place finish, completing the 6k course in 19:56.77. Freshman Terry Nielsen was the No. 2 Panther finisher, claiming 31st place overall with a time of 20:28.79. Senior Brady Fritz took 36th place (20:39.26), David Nielsen took 38th (20:43.35) and Brendan Thompson took 43rd (20:57.62) to complete the Panthers' scoring.

The UNI men were fifth as a team with 113 points. Drake won the men's team race with 28 points.

UNI will compete next at the Iowa Invitational in Iowa City on Fri., Sept. 16.
