BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - University of Northern Iowa freshman Paige Knodle earned a third-place finish in the heptathlon at the USA Track & Field Junior Championships on Sunday. Knodle totaled 5,230 points, climbing two positions in the standings over the final three events.
Knodle opened Day Two with a personal-best mark of 18-03.25 (5.57m) in the long jump. She posted the second-best javelin throw at 117-07 (35.84m), and closed by coming within one second of her personal best in the 800m. Knodle's 800m time of 2:14.80 was also the second-best in the field.
Knodle was the Missouri Valley Conference runner-up in the heptathlon this season and finished the NCAA season ranked No. 25 in the nation.
Erica Bougard took the USA Junior title with 5,547 points. Kendell Williams was second with 5,481. The USA Junior Championships served as a qualifier for this year's IAAF World Junior Championships. The top two finishers in the heptathlon will be part of the American team that will compete in Barcelona, Spain, from July 10-15.
