Rattlers Take Several Top Places At FSU Relays

TALLAHASSEE, FL (Mar.24) - Jeremy Tillman blazed to first place in the 100m dash, Shuaib Winter won the 5,000m run, while Derrick Morgan took first in the 400m dash, propelling the Rattlers to a solid performance at the FSU Relays, Saturday at Mike Long Track.

Tillman took top honors in the collegiate division with a 10.43 time in the 100m dash. Niko Richey took second place in 10.60. Also placing in the top 10 were Defario Phillps (7th-10.87) and Charief Lewis (9th-10.97).

Morgan took the top place in the 400m dash in 47.12. Adding to the feat of Morgan was the fact that he fought a tough headwind down the stretch to score his time.

Winters separated himself from the crowded field in the 5,000m run, turning in a 15.15.57.

The Rattlers' 4x100m team of Tillman, Richey, Lewis and Phillps took first place in 40.56. The team looked solid with smooth handoffs and four strong legs.

Distance runner Elias Chesire took second place in the 3,000m steeplechase. As a team, the Rattlers (Morgan, Richey, Steve Emere, D'Anthony Lewis) took second place in the 4x400m relay, bringing it home in 3:11.54. Middle distance runner Lamere Buchanon brought home second place in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.81. Deji Owolabi took fifth in 1:54.98, while McDaniel Olivier placed ninth at 1:55.78.

Tillman would also put in a solid performance in the 200m dash, carding a 21.27, which was good for third place. Richey took sixth place in the race, turning in a 21.66 finish. Tillman would also score a ninth place finish in the javelin throw at 44.84m.

In the long jump, Timothy Upton took fourth place with a jump of 6.42m (21-00.75)..Phillip Washington would score a sixth place finish at 6.20m (20-04.25), while Jean Leon took eighth in 5.82m (19-01.25). Xavier Mackey placed eighth in the shot put, tossing the weight 13.41m (44-00_.
