Director of Football Recruiting

Second Year

Josh Sternquist joined the Lobo football program in the spring of 2012 and begins his second season as director of football recruiting.

Sternquist has more than nine years of recruiting and operational experience at the Football Bowl Subdivision level. He comes to New Mexico from the University of Minnesota, in which he worked from 2008-2011. In 2010, Sternquist oversaw recruiting while the school underwent a coaching change.

He assisted in the recruitment of 19 Academic All-Big Ten selections and three NFL players.

Prior to his years at Minnesota, Sternquist was a football and recruiting operations assistant at the University of Wisconsin from 2004-08. Sternquist assisted in the recruitment of 13 first-team All-Big Ten performers, 10 All-America players, 16 NFL draft picks -- including first-rounders Gabe Carimi (offensive tackle) of the Chicago Bears and Kevin Zeitler (right guard) of the Cincinnati Bengals -- an Outland Trophy recipient (voted annually to the best interior lineman nationally in the Football Bowl Subdivision) in Carimi, a John Mackey Awardfinalist (to the nation's best tight end) in the St. Louis Rams' Lance Kendricks, a Johnny Unitas Golden Arm winner in San Francisco 49ers quarterback Scott Tolzien , a Big Ten Freshman of the Year (RB P.J. Hill in 2006), a Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year (running back John Clay in 2009), a Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year (Carimi) and 31 Academic All-Big Ten selections.

In 2006, Sternquist assisted with the completion of a recruiting class during a coaching change that would help the Badgers earn a trip to the Rose Bowl during the 2010 season -- the school's first trip there since the 1999 season.

Sternquist graduated from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education. He played defensive back for three years at Wisconsin-Whitewater, earning Academic All-WIAC honors and four Defensive Player of the Week awards. He finished his career there tied for fourth place on the school's all-time interceptions list.

Sternquist started his collegiate career at Valparaiso University, playing from 1999-2000.

The Sternquists, Kalen and Josh, have three children: a daughter, Maggie, and twin sons, Jackson and Lucas.
