Mike Mulcahy is in his fourth year with the University of New Mexico Athletic Communications office. Mulcahy joined the Communications department as a communications assistant in the summer of 2011 as the primary media contact for the New Mexico men's and momen's track and field squads. He was later tasked as the primary contact for the Lobos' nationally ranked men's and women's cross country teams in early 2012. On top of his other responsibilities, Mulcahy was made the primary contact for UNM's newest intercollegiate sport, women's sand volleyball, in 2014.
In June 2014, Mulcahy was awarded the Fred Nuesch Undergraduate Scholarship by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The scholarship is granted to two outstanding undergraduates working in media relations/sports information offices.
During his time at New Mexico, he has served as the co-media relations coordinator for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships and as the host sports information director for the 2014 NCAA Mountain Regional Cross Country Championships and the 2012 and 2015 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships.
His material, including photographs, statistics and writing, has been published in national and local media, including Flotrack.org and the Albuquerque Journal.
Mulcahy is a 2011 graduate of Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, where he graduated in the top three percent of his class and was named a National Hispanic Scholar. He lettered three years in speech and debate while at Eldorado and qualified to the National Forensic League National Tournament his senior year.
Majoring in journalism with a concentration in multimedia journalism, Mulcahy has strong ties to the University of New Mexico athletic program, as his great grandfather, Harold Ignatius Mulcahy, and grandfather, Jack Mulcahy, both were lettermen for Lobos men's basketball from 1925-27 and 1952-55, respectively.
