Rice won the women's team title with 32 points. Houston was the runner-up with 56 points followed by Sam Houston 72, Houston Baptist 89, Baylor 120, Prairie View A&M 159 and Texas Southern 195.
Alyssa Dooley was the individual runner-up with a time of 17:41. Sara Collazos was eight with a 18:15 clocking.
"Alyssa Dooley and Sara Collazos both had good races," Bearkat distance coach Jesse Parker said. "Alyssa ran with the lead group the entire race and was she was able to easily out run everyone, with the exception of the winner, over the last 1.5 miles of the race."
Other Sam Houston women's finishes were Victoria Gemeny 14th 18:35, Nidia Romero 22nd 19:07, Sara Pena 26th 19:16; Haleight Ceballos 28th 19:27 and Amanda Dunlap 39th 20:41.
"Sara ran just off the lead pack for the first half of the race and was able to move from just outside the top 10 to 8th place over the last mile," Parker said. "Victoria used the same approach and passed a large group of runners in the final mile which probably took us from finished 4th overall to finishing 3rd.
" I was really excited with the way freshmen Nidia Romero competed. She was aggressive early in the race and established a good early position. Over the last mile she ran very tough and was able to hold her place. She has been having very good workouts over the last several weeks as well and has been a pleasant surprise this season."
