CU Tennis Teams Perform Well at Omaha Collegiate Invitational

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men’s and women’s tennis teams combined to win an impressive 75 percent of their first-round singles matches at the Omaha Collegiate Invitational on Friday at the Koch Tennis Center.

The Bluejay men led the way with a 10-2 overall record on the day at the tournament hosted by Creighton and Omaha. The CU women owned a 5-3 ledger on day one.

In men’s singles Flight A, senior Billy Paluch and freshman Jake Norman picked up wins in straight sets for the Bluejays. In Flight C, junior Elliott Baker and sophomore Quinn Dippel also rolled to straight-set victories.

Sophomore Nick Thompson surrendered just four games in his Flight D decision. Classmate Anthony Rauschenbach needed three sets to claim a singles victory in Flight E. Freshman Aaron Chalstrom gave up just four games in his Flight E win.

In Flight F, sophomores Jack Fay and August Nysted coasted to victories. Freshman Jake Glazer claimed a straight-sets victory in Flight G.

On the women’s side, senior Analese Snyder and junior Jennie Hartjes won their matches in straight sets in Flight A.

Freshman Katherine Nelsen only gave up five games in a Flight B victory.

In Flight D, Liz Vermillion needed three sets to advance to the second round. Freshman Simone Hussussian dominated in her Flight E decision, dropping just one game.

Play continues at the Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m. with three rounds of doubles action before second-round singles matches commence. The tournament will continue to be held at the Koch Tennis Center but could be moved inside to the Hanscom Tennis Center if inclement weather occurs.
