Drake Splits Two Games on Saturday at Woo Pig Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Iowa - The Drake Bulldogs (6-9) split two games on Saturday at the 2012 Woo Pig Classic. Drake blanked IUPUI, 3-0 in game one and dropped another close game to Arkansas, 8-6 in the later game.
In game one, Jordan Gronewold (Carlisle, Iowa) and Rebekah Schmidt (Cottage Grove, Minn.) combined for a one-hitter. Gronewold started and went five innings to earn her fifth win of the season and Schmidt earned the save for her two innings of work.
Torey Craddock (Tuscon, Ariz.) was 1-2 with two RBI for Drake. Craddock's RBI single in the third inning propelled Drake to the win.
In game two, Hayley Nybo (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished 2-4 with a home run and two RBI. Craddock was 3-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Craddock and Nybo singled and doubled runs home, respectively, in the fifth inning to help the Bulldogs take a 6-3 lead. Drake scored four runs in the inning.
Arkansas took the lead back in the bottom half of the fifth with four runs and they added one more run in the sixth inning off a home run.
Gronewold went five innings and allowed eight hits and five runs to take the loss. Schmidt went one inning and walked five and gave up three runs.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. against the Butler Bulldogs. Drake will play in the consolation or championship game later in the day.
