Lake Runs Personal Best At Drake Relays
Lake’s time of 4:25.46 not only was a personal best, but also leads the Missouri Valley Conference.
“This is my third time that I’ve raced the 1500,” commented Lake. “I still don’t really know how to strategize yet, but I am really excited to record a personal best.
Lake started at the back of the pack for the final lap, but powered her way to eighth.
“I was feeling pretty good at the start,” said Lake. “I was really hesitant the first few laps as the pace was fast. I was feeling good the last lap and I pushed and gave it every thing I had.”
Senior Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) claimed 12th in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.78. This marked her first 400-hurdles under the minute mark this year.
“I hit two hurdles and stumbled on a few, but I got through the best I could,” said Curtis.
Curtis says it was a great experience to compete on the blue oval at the Drake Relays in front of a supportive crowd.
“It definitely put an extra boost of motivation in my race,” Curtis said. “I have been having a tough year, so it was nice on the home turf to give me a nice push. This is my last Relays, so this was a great experience and I was grateful for the hometown crowd. ”
