The Bulldogs Downed the Iowa Hawkeyes, 1-0, on Wednesday Night

IOWA CITY - Jordan Gronewold (Carlisle, Iowa) scored the winning run and pitched five plus innings to help Drake (16-16) beat the Iowa Hawkeyes (14-18), 1-0, on Wednesday night at Pearl Field in Iowa City.

Gronewold improved to 12-10 on the season as she went 5 1/3 innings and struck out three and allowed just three hits. She finished 1-of-3 at the plate with one run scored. Rebekah Schmidt (Cottage Grove, Minn.) earned her sixth save of the season as she went 1 2/3 innings and struck out three and allowed only one hit.

Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz.), Hayley Nybo (Minnetonka, Minn.), Lindsey Vande Wall (Prairie City, Iowa) and Jaimie Duffek (Brookfield, Ill.) all finished 1-of-3 at the plate for the Bulldogs.

Nicole Randel (Alpine, Calif.) added a pinch hit single for Drake in the fifth inning and she drew a throw on an attempted stolen base to score Gronewold, who had doubled and advanced to third earlier.

The Bulldogs will travel to Cedar Falls this Friday for a matchup against MVC leading Northern Iowa. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. and live stats will be available at www.GoDrakebulldogs.com. The series will conclude with two games on Saturday with the first game starting at noon.
