Drake Rowing Wraps Successful Day at Lubbers Cup
SPRING LAKE, Mich. - The Drake women's rowing team wrapped up a successful day at the Lubbers Cup in Spring Lake, Mich. The Bulldogs won two races and placed second in another on Saturday.
Jacque Nowers (coxswain) (Ames, Iowa), Kat Moore (Brooklyn Center, Minn.), Susan Goulette (New Brighton, Minn.), Sarah Travis (Casa Grande, Ariz.) and Maggie Benhart (St. Charles, Ill.) won the first Varsity Four + race and Monica Worsley (coxswain) (Cary, Ill.), Wenel Jais-Cross (Bollingbrook, Ill.), Bailey Berg (Eau Claire, Wis.), Hannah Powers (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and Payton Albrecht (Milan, Ill.) won the third Varsity Four + race.
"We had a really good day of racing and the extra conditioning is starting to pay off as we head to our conference championship in two weeks and our home race next weekend," Drake head rowing coach Charlie DiSilvestro said. "Physically we are in good shape and we have gotten faster but we need to adjust our race plans a little and execute them better but we are on track for next weekend and for conference championship.

Sarah Laughlin (coxswain) (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Madi Perington (Victoria Minn.), Brittney Michael (Pleasant Hill, Iowa), Jessica Nightser (Council Bluffs, Iowa) and Brittany Smith (Duluth, Minn.) placed third in the second Varsity Four race.
Hannah Hennessy (Morris, Ill.), Megan Bannister (LaGrange, Ill.), Emily Householter (Wheaton, Ill.), Justine Choe (Morton Grove, Ill.) and Mallory Bonstrom (Eau Claire, Wis.) took fourth in the varsity four + lightweight race.
The Bulldogs will host the Drake Invitational next Saturday, April 21 at the Birdland Marina on the Des Moines River.
