Harp Sets New School Record At Drake Relays
DES MOINES, Iowa - Junior Kevin Harp (Iowa City, Iowa) set a new school record in the men's javelin en route to a fifth-place finish at the 103rd running of the Drake Relays.
Even with winds gusting up to over 30 miles per hour, Harp had a best throw of 209 feet 1 inch.
"His performance was pretty gutsy," commented throws coach Mark Kostek. "Its pretty difficult to throw the javelin in those conditions. He is finally healthy. He is starting to see some results with the great training he has had."
The Bulldogs claimed fifth in the 4x200 as sophomore Brett Wright (Longmont, Colo.), seniorShaun James (Lawrence, Kan.), junior Dan Karys (Bartlett, Iowa) and senior Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.) clocked in at 1:26.08.
The 4x1600 squad of sophomore Doug Brady (Englewood, Colo.), senior Matt Jurysta (Oshawa, Colo.), and freshmen Tyler Nelson (Lone Tree, Colo.) and Conor Wells (Des Moines, Iowa) were 12th in 17:23.91.
The Drake Relays wrap up tomorrow with start time set for 8 a.m.
