Women's Track Enjoys Success At Iowa Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – In its final meet before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track And Field Championship, the Drake women’s track squad enjoyed impressive performances at the Iowa Invitational on Friday, Feb. 17.

 

Junior Marissa Smith (Ajax, Ontario) garnered a second-place showing in the 200-meters in 26.38, while fellow juniors Briana Isom-Brummer (St. Louis, Mo.) and Sarah Yeager (Ottumwa, Iowa) were sixth (26.86) and seventh (26.99), respectively.

 

Sophomore Tiara Winston (Denton, Texas) and Smith finished sixth (8.00) and seventh (8.09), respectively, in the 60-meter dash.

 

A trio of Bulldogs rounded out the top-nine finishers in the 400-meters. Senior Kirsten Lake (Parker, Colo) was seventh (1:00.93), freshman Jessica Mathes (Cherokee, Iowa) claimed eighth (1:01.42), while senior Paige Steffen (Bloomington, Ill.) placed ninth (1:01.68).

 

Freshman Mariel Fulton (Louisville, Colo.) snared fourth in the mile in 5:11.68.

 

Yeager along with junior Emily James (Clive, Iowa) finished in the top-five of 60-meter hurdle finals as Yeager was fourth (9.06), while James claimed fifth-place (9.15).

 

The Bulldogs will turn their attention to the State Farm MVC Indoor Track And Field Championship on Feb. 25-26 at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
