Women's Golf Takes 17th at LPGA Xavier Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished 17th at the LPGA Xavier International on Monday in Daytona Beach, Fla.. The par-72 6,146 yard Legends Course hosted the 18-team event. The field included such teams as host school Xavier, Illinois State, South Dakota, North Dakota, South Dakota State and North Dakota State.  

Creighton finished with a team score of 992 (332 + 328+ 332). 

Mercer won team honors finishing at 893 (305 + 296 + 292). Daytona State College (300+301+300= 901) and Morehead State (302+294+305=941) finished tied for second.  

Samford’s Bailey Gray claimed the top spot overall with a 212 (73+70+69). Daytona State’s Tiffany Chan finished second with a 214 (73+72+69) and Mercer's Lacey Fears (72+70+74=216) finished in third place.

For the Bluejays, Rachel Thompson finished tied for 36th with a 235 (84+73+78). Her second-round 73 was CU's lowest round since Celeste Gassman in October of 2011 and also a career-low.

Katie Morel finished tied for 66th with a 248 (79+83+86). Kelsey Petersen tied for 76th with a 254 (84+90+80).  Finishing two strokes and three spots behing Petersen was Grace Yowell (85+83+88) and Mary Cathryn Rau placed 89th with a 276 (92+89+95). 

The Jays compete next on Oct. 14-15 at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Mo.
