Women's Golf Claims 14th at Chip-N Club Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton women's golf team finished 14th at the Chip-N Club Invitational Tuesday. The University of Nebraska hosted the two-day event at the par-72 6,186 yard Country Club of Lincoln. SMU took the top spot in the 15-team competition.

Of the Jays five golfers, four were freshmen. Taylor Hill finished tied for 53rd. The freshman from Council Bluffs, Iowa shot a 248 (82-85-81). Junior Celeste Gassman finished tied for 61st with a 253. After a slow start shooting a 90 in round one, the Kansas City, Mo., native used second- and third-round scores of 79 and 84, respectively, to bolster her position. SMU's Felicia Espericueta carded a 220 to take the individual title.

Rounding out the Jays scoring were freshmen Rachel Thompson (89-86-83=258), Mary Cathryn Rau (83-86-90=259) and Katie Morel (93-92-85=270).

The Jays are in action again in two weeks at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational on Sept. 26-27 in Manhattan, Kan.
