Men's Golf Finishes Ninth at First BIG EAST Championship

CALLAWASSIE, S.C. -- The Creighton men’s golf team finished ninth at its first BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championships on Tuesday. The nine-team event took place at the Dogwood and Magnolia Golf Courses at the Callawassie Island Golf Club, which was a par 72 track that measured 7,065 yards.

St. John’s won the tournament with an 882. Marquette finished second with an 892, followed by DePaul (899), Georgetown (908), Xavier (910), Seton Hall (911), Butler (939), Villanova (954) and Creighton 957 (321+323+313). 

St. John’s Ryan McCormick finished first overall with a score of 211. There was a two way tie for second. 

The Jays were led by Johnny Spellerberg. The junior finished tied for 24th with a 233. Freshman Kade Brown finished tied for 26th with a 234, including a 73 on Tuesday in his final round. Sophomore Tommy Anderson’s 246 left him in a tie for 39th with teammate Andrew Holloway. Junior Richard Schneider (44th, 251) had a strong showing for the Jays, as well.

The Jays will return seven golfers for the 2014 fall campaign.
