Men's Golf Closes Out Fall With 17th Place Finish

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Creighton golf team finished 17th at the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic on Tuesday. The 18-team event took place at the par-72 7,100 yard Turtle Point Golf Course. The field included Marquette, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Carolina, Richmond, Winthrop and George Washington.

Creighton finished with a team score of 933 (312+313+308).

South Carolina took top honors with an even-par 864 (283+286+295). Marquette (292+296+298=886) and Winthrop (295+298+294=887) finished second and third, respectively.

Nick Nelson of Marquette (70+67+73) finished first overall with a 210. Matthew NeSmith (75+69+68) of South Carolina placed second with a 212 and Radford’s Nick Brediger finished third shooting a 215 (69+73+73).

The Jays were led by Kade Brown. He finished tied for 37th with a 227 (78+72+77). Johnny Spellerberg finished tied for 41st with a 228 (75+76+77). Richard Schneider finished third for the Jays. He shot a 242 (75+84+83) which placed him in a tie for 87th.

Daniel McKernan (T-89th, 85+81+77=243) and Tommy Anderson (T93rd, 84+85+77=246) both had strong showings for the Jays, as well.

The Jays will return to action in the Spring of 2014.
