2012 Regular-Season Schedule
Albany, N.Y.- The University at Albany men's soccer squad has released an 18-game season, which includes all seven of its "home" games being played off campus due to the construction of the new Multi-Sport Complex. All seven of the Great Danes home game's field sites will be named at a later date.
"We're very pleased with the quality of this year's schedule. We always want to challenge ourselves against top quality opposition and this schedule will certainly allow us to do that", said second year head coach Trevor Gorman on the upcoming season. "Preseason is only a few weeks away now and we're all looking forward to getting our group together and getting to work. The season is the most exciting time of the year, and we can't wait to see what type of team we can become and test ourselves against our conference, and non-conference, foes."
The Great Danes will face 11 non-conference opponents from seven different conferences and begin the 2012 season on the road against Big East opponent Syracuse on August 24. UAlbany then comes home to play Towson on September 1, who defeated the Great Danes last season 4-1 in Towson, Md.
UAlbany then goes on the road for the next six of seven games from September 3-23 against Yale, Fairleigh Dickinson, Penn State, Bucknell, Buffalo and Siena. The Great Danes split up the road trip with a home match on September 9 against Hofstra.
After UAlbany's match against crosstown rivals Siena on September 23, the Great Danes begin conference play with the first of three-game homestand against defending America East Conference Champions Stony Brook on September 29. Binghamton and UMBC follow to wrap up the homestand. UAlbany then heads up to Durham, N.H. to face New Hampshire.
The Great Danes break up conference play with a non-conference matchup against Hartwick on October 17. UAlbany fell to Hartwick, 2-1, in its 2011 season opener.
UAlbany finishes up the month of October with its final three conference matches against Boston U., Vermont and Hartford. The Great Danes wrap-up the 2012 regular season with a home match against Colgate on October 30.UAlbany finished the 2011 regular season in sixth to grab the final spot in the America East Tournament. The Great Danes (6-10-3, 1-3-3 AE) defeated the No. 3 seed Vermont, in the first round, 3-2 in a thrilling match. UAlbany would eventually fall to Stony Brook, in the Semifinals by a final score of 3-1.
