Two Softball Juniors Named to MVC All-Tournament Team
OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton softball juniors Becca Changstrom and Ellen Homan earned spots on the All-Tournament Team at the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Softball Championship held at the CU Sports Complex on Saturday.
The awards mark the first All-Tournament Team honors for the pair of Bluejays.
Homan paced the Creighton offense in an MVC Semifinal against Northern Iowa on Friday. Three of CU’s four hits came off of the bat of the junior outfielder. She posted a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate to lead the Jays.
Changstrom, the 2013 MVC Pitcher of the Year, gave up just one run on four hits in a complete-game effort. After a leadoff UNI home run to begin the game, Changstrom and the Jays retired the next dozen Panther batters. The right-handed hurler added seven K’s to her league-leading strikeout total in the contest.
UNI junior pitcher Jamie Fisher, who helped the Panthers to their first title since 1990 with a 2-1 championship game victory, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Creighton finished 29-18 and will return four MVC postseason honorees in 2014 including both Changstrom and Homan.
