CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The College of Charleston equestrian team opens the spring portion of its schedule with a pair of Intercollegiate Horse Show Association shows this weekend at Miami and Florida International on Saturday, Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 5.
The team will be competing against the usual cast of IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 opponents as the Cougars look to continue their climb up the regional standings.
The squad closed the fall portion of its schedule with a pair of first-place finishes at shows hosted by Georgia Southern and the College's host show at Storybook Farms.
After a convincing victory at Storybook Farms, the Cougars climbed into second place and sits behind first-place Savannah College of Art and Design by just 15 points. CofC's Amanda Mazzola was the high point rider of the day with a class-best outing in the Novice Flat (section C) and the Cougars also got best-in-class performances out of McKenzie Armour in Open Flat (section A), Eliza Hay in Open Flat (section B), Elizabeth Ulicny in Intermediate Fences (section B), Jane Goodwin in Advanced Walk Trot Canter (section A) and Sara von Schweinitz in Beginner Walk Trot Canter.
Through the fall portion of the season, 16 different riders combined to give CofC 24 best-in-class performances. CofC will look to ride that momentum into the spring as they have four shows before the regional competition.
Following the weekend's shows, the Cougars will break briefly before a Sunday, Feb. 26 show at Georgia Southern.
