Winners of four of its last five games, the Stetson women's basketball team will host the Georgia Southern Eagles at 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to begin the 25th Annual Hatter Classic at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (5-4) are coming off a much-needed 78-66 road victory at Florida Atlantic on Saturday.  Senior guard Shanasa Sanders scored a game-high 18 points including 16 in the second half, while Victoria McGowan registered 17 points and Jama Sharp added 16 points.  A strong offensive effort saw the Hatters shoot 57 percent from three-point range (8-14) and 86 percent from the free throw line (18-21).  The Hatters also shot 46 percent from the floor and outrebounded FAU 44-30.

The Eagles (1-5), meanwhile, have been idle since Dec. 7 when they lost at home 48-44 to Mercer.  Junior MiMi DuBose leads Georgia Southern with a 14.7 ppg scoring average.

Georgia Southern leads the all-time series 22-10 over Stetson, but the Hatters defeated the Eagles 61-51 last year in Statesboro, Ga.

On Wednesday at 1 p.m., the Hatters will meet UNC Asheville for the first time in program history.  The Bulldogs (2-8) are coming off a 71-62 defeat at the hands of Kennesaw State last Thursday in Asheville, N.C.  Sophomore Shonese Jones leads UNC Asheville in scoring (14.4 ppg).

Bethune-Cookman (3-5) will also participate in this year's classic and will play UNC Asheville at 3 p.m. Tuesday and Georgia Southern at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The Hatters are looking to extend their eight-game home winning streak (4-0 this season).  Overall Stetson has won 20 of their last 21 and 23 of their last 25 games at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters won last year's Hatter Classic with victories over Campbell (70-55) and Florida Atlantic (52-37).  Sanders was named tournament MVP.
