Jake Peter Invited To Team USA Training Camp

OMAHA, Neb - Sophomore Jake Peter has been invited to participate in a Team USA training camp in North Carolina.  Peter will join several other collegiate players attempting to earn a spot on the 24-man roster.

Team USA will begin the training camp process on June 20 in Cary, N.C. with the final roster to be set prior to the team's departure for Japan on July 3

Peter had a breakout 2013, both at the plate and on the mound.  Jake was the Bluejays' leader in average (.350), hits (71), RBI (35) and is second in doubles (10), triples (5) as well as slugging percentage (.463).  On the mound, Jake has served as the Jays' closer this season, collecting six saves and two wins in 14 appearances.  Peter finished with a 3.07 ERA in 14.2 innings, walking just three batters and collecting 18 punch-outs.

Jake was a semifinalist for the Gregg Olson Award, created to honor college baseball's "Breakout Player of the Year", and a finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.

"It's an honor to have the chance to play for your country," said Peter.  I've seen some of the other guys on the roster and I am humbled by this opportunity."

There will be one familiar face evaluating Jake as Creighton head coach Ed Servais is serving as an assistant coach for the national team in 2013.

Peter showed no fear when asked about the opportunity in front of him.

"It's baseball, I'm going to go to North Carolina, give it everything I've got and let the chips fall where they may," said Peter.

Peter is the third Creighton player to be invited to work out or play with the U.S. National Team as Doug McDermott earned and invite from Team USA for the World University Games (June 24-30) and Eric Miller nabbed a spot on the U.S. U-20 World Cup Roster.
