Castagnini Selected in the 30th Round of MLB Draft by Orioles

OMAHA, Neb. - Junior Federico Castagnini was the first Creighton baseball player selected in 2013 MLB Draft, going in the 30th round to the Baltimore Orioles (pick 909) on Saturday, June 8.

In his first season at Creighton, Castagnini played third base for the Bluejays.  Federico was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week (April 8 & 22) and earned All-MVC Honorable Mention.  He closed the season fourth on the team with a .320 average, including 54 hits (eight doubles) and 27 RBI.  

Hitting in the number two hole for the majority of the season, Castagnini has consistently been in the top five of the NCAA in sacrifice's per game, he remains second overall with 0.44 per game (19 SH in 44 games).

Castagnini is currently playing summer ball in the Northwoods League for the Green Bay Bullfrogs.  Before coming to Creighton, Castagnini played two seasons at Barton Community College.
