BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Ball State University women's basketball team (3-8) suffered a 71-56 loss against Illinois State (6-3) Sunday afternoon at Redbird Arena.

For the game junior guard Brandy Woody led the Cardinals with a career high 18 point performance while freshman guard Nathalie Fontaine chipped in 14 for the game.

Both teams shot fairly well from the field with Ball State shooting 40.8 percent for the contest while Illinois State shot 43.3 percent.  The deciding factor was more of a rebounding situation as the Redbirds outrebounded the Cardinals 39-to-31.

The Redbirds led the remainder of the contest eventually going up 53-36 over the Cardinals with 13:44 remaining in the second half.  Ball State went on a 7-2 run to cut it to 55-43 just under the ten minute mark after a three point play from Woody and a layup.  But the Redbirds continued their hot shooting at the other end of the court which resulted in the victory for Illinois State.

Illinois State jumped out to an early 7-2 lead over Ball State at the start of the contest.  At the 9:07 mark the Redbirds had built a 23-8 cushion over the Cardinals.  Sophomore guard Brittany Carter then made two free throws that sparked a 7-0 run for Ball State to cut Illinois State's 15 point lead to seven (23-16) with 6:43 remaining in the half.  The Redbirds would end the half with a 43-28 advantage over the Cardinals.

The Ball State women's basketball team will host Wyoming Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
