TOWSON, Md. – The Tiger cheerleaders once again walked away with top scores at their second local competition of the season, which was held at Magruder High School on Saturday. The Tigers won the Open All-Girl 6 division in addition to earning the highest score of the competition.
The squad posted a score of 279, beating their previous competition final score by 17.5 points. The team also earned a Partner Stunts award.
“It was a little bit of a stressful week getting ready for this competition,” said Head Coach Edy Pratt. “I was unsure if the team could surpass last weekend’s performance but proved Saturday that they could. I hope it continues at Nationals.”
“This weekend’s performance really came as a surprise to me,” said Assistant Coach Nick Santolla. “We didn’t have the best practices this week but the girls really proved themselves this weekend by having a much better performance than last weekend.”
While the Tigers earned first place in the event, James Madison earned second place with a score of 268 followed by Catholic University, which earned a 228.0 score.
The Tigers will have a pair of exhibitions before heading to the NCA/NDA Collegiate National Championship. On April 1, the Tigers will have an exhibition at the Towson Center Arena at 7 p.m. followed by an April 4 exhibition at the University of Maryland.
In their second year of competing at NCA’s Collegiate National Championship, the Tigers will be hoping to improve on last year’s fourth place finish in the All-Girl Division I category.
