Jackrabbit teams rank high for APR
INDIANAPOLIS - Three South Dakota State University athletic teams have been recognized by the NCAA for achieving perfect scores of 1,000 in the most recent Academic Progress Rate survey.
Teams honored include the Jackrabbit women's basketball, women's golf and women's tennis squads during the 2010-11 academic year. APR is a Division I metric developed to track the academic achievement of teams each term. Every student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one retention point for staying in school and one eligible point for being academically eligible. A team's total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by one thousand to equal the team's APR score.
All 20 Jackrabbit athletic teams - equestrian currently is not included in the survey - registered APRs well above the minimum threshold of 925. For the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, teams must achieve a multi-year APR of 900 or a 930 average for the two most recent years to be eligible for postseason competition. In 2014-15, teams that don't achieve a new benchmark of 930 for their four-year APR or at least a 940 average for the two most recent years will be ineligible. In 2015-16, the 930 benchmark for postseason competition will be implemented fully.
