Four teams honored by NCAA
Four South Dakota State University teams were honored Thursday with the NCAA Public Recognition Award. The honor is given to teams whose most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rates (APR) are among the top 10 percent nationally in each sport.
Receiving the recognition were the Jackrabbit men's basketball, women's basketball, women's golf and women's tennis squads. The awards are based on figures compiled through the 2010-11 academic year.
SDSU's four awards were the most among Summit League institutions.
The Academic Progress Rate is a Division I metric developed to track the academic achievement of teams each term. Every student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one retention point for staying in school and one eligible point for being academically eligible. A team's total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by one thousand to equal the team's APR score. Multi-year APRs for all Division I sports teams will be announced June 20.
