Jacks find success in Mankato

MANKATO, Minn. – The SDSU women’s track and field team opened their 2012-13 indoor season Saturday at the MSU Preseason Open at Minnesota State-Mankato.

Shelby Assmus started the day off with a third place finish in the weight throw. Assmus had a distance of 16.45m. Assmus also took fifth in the shot put with a distance of 12.62m.

In the long jump, Ashley Odegaard placed fourth with a jump of 5.35m.

Marissia Hagedorn claimed 12th in the pole vault with a height of 3.06m.

Jenna Stephens took 12th in the triple jump with a distance of 10.45m. Stephens also placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.55m.

Mary Wirth competed in two events unattached. Wirth won the high jump with a jump of 1.76m and placed eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.97m.

McKenzie Johnson competed unattached in the shot put. Johnson finished second with a throw of 13.80m.

Amy Paulzine competed unattached in the weight throw and placed sixth. Paulzine had a distance of 15.90m.

The 60m dash was were the Jackrabbits had the most success. Gina Fritz won the race with a time of 7.84 seconds, Megan Bren was .02 seconds behind her in second. In third was Odegaard with a time of 7.88 seconds. Carly Carper took fifth with a time of 7.99m.

In the 60m hurdles, Marissia Hagedorn placed eighth. Hagedorn had a time of 9.53 seconds.

In the 200m dash, Bren won the event with a time of 25.66 seconds and Fritz placed second in 25.87 seconds.

Jessica McDonald placed sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.42.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Bren, Lori Foltz, McDonald and Fritz took fifth. The team had a time of 4:16.28.

Erica Meyer placed second overall in the 600m run with a time of 1:40.61.

The Jackrabbits will have a month off before competing in the NDSU Invite on Jan. 12, 2013 in Fargo, N.D.
